Andrea Strauss

A music educator with manifold talents, Andrea Strauss leverages almost 30 years of experience in instruction and also applies her passion to research and writing. Published in The Woman Conductor as well as the Music Educators Journal, Andrea Strauss served as Music Education Research Chair of the National Band Association. Additionally, she completed an online study that surveyed more than 1,000 adult musicians internationally, “Music Participation in Adult Life.”

 

Presently, Strauss employs her expertise as Director of Bands and Associate Professor of Shorter University in Rome, Georgia. In this capacity, Andrea Strauss holds responsibility for new curriculum, resources management, and ensemble arrangement. She heads the chamber orchestra, marching band, and wind ensemble. Prior to joining Shorter University, Strauss acted as Assistant Professor and Director of Bands at the Georgia Institute of Technology for 16 years and led her students to performances at numerous international events, including the China Shanghai International Arts Festival.

 

Andrea Strauss’ prowess as an instructor and authority on music education frequently garners accolades, among them Tau Beta Sigma’s Outstanding Service to Music Award, the National Band Association’s Citation of Excellence, and the Women Band Directors International Scroll of Excellence. Committed to the growth and improvement of music education, Andrea Strauss remains active in a host of professional organizations. Strauss currently sits on the National Band Association’s Board of Directors and formerly acted as the organization’s Music Education Research Committee Chair, Mentor Director, and State Chair.

 

Additionally, she served as State Chair of the College Band Directors National Association. In December 2010, Strauss participated in the 64th annual Midwest Clinic, as a Rehearsal Lab Technician. Andrea Strauss resides in Marietta, Georgia. Outside of her roles in education and administration, Strauss is an active member of the local Catholic Church of St. Ann.
