Amdy Faye, a Senegalese football player, born on March 12, 1977 in Dakar, plays as a defensive midfielder on the field. Nicknamed “Amdy”, this international player made his debut for the Senegal national football team in a match against Egypt in May 2001. On May 31, 2002, at the 2002 Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) World Cup, he was a part of the squad that had the famous 1-0 win over France, the 1998 champions, in Seoul.
Amdy Faye made his World Cup finals debut on June 11, 2002 as a substitute in the third group’s 3-3 draw match against Uruguay at Suwon World Cup Stadium, Suwon. He was a part of the starting eleven in the 2-1 extra-time victory against Sweden on June 16, 2002 at the knockout last-16 stage, and he was included in the team in the quarter-final match against Turkey. As of February 2007, Amdy Faye has played a total of 18 matches for the Senegal national team.
This defensive midfielder started off his career at the AS Monaco Football Club, a French Ligue 1 club, following which he had a stint with ES Frejus. In 1998, Amdy Faye joined the senior team of AJ Auxerre, a French football club, and during his successful stint of five years with the club, he made 81 appearances and netted thrice.
Amdy Faye transferred to Portsmouth in 2003 and made his debut for the club in a 2–1 win over Aston Villa. Following a period of injury for five months, he made a comeback in December 2003 and went on to play a total of 47 games for the club. In January 2005, Amdy Faye moved to Newcastle United, and during his stay with the club, he made 31 appearances, after which he joined Charlton Athletic on August 8, 2006. His first goal, following his transfer to English football in 2003, came on January 20, 2007 against Portsmouth, and he went on to make a total of 29 appearances during his two-year tenure with the club.
In August 2007, Amdy Faye went to Rangers, a Scottish football club, on a season-long loan, and during the 2007-08 season, he played 6 games for the club. He returned back to Charlton during the summer of 2008, and on August 15, 2008, he signed with Stoke City, the oldest club of the Premier League.
