Wife, mother, and Blue Ridge Mountain inhabitant are three ways to describe Amanda Dyson. Asheville is along the National Park Service's most popular scenic drive, the Blue Ridge Parkway, which draws 20 million hikers, bikers, drivers, and campers annually. The area inspired Charles Frazier, who wrote the novel Cold Mountain about on the area. Another work captures the lives of Cherokee Indians, which live on a reservation minutes away from Dyson's cabin. The wide expanse of the mountains gives her plenty of space for hiking and camping, two of her favorite activities.

In 1999, she founded the landscaping company Blue Ridge Farms, LLC. Success would soon follow Amanda Dyson; Asheville residents gave her several awards for her work on local restaurants and complexes.

A host of animals live with Amanda Dyson in Asheville, including cats, two English bulldogs, and llamas; in addition to the black bears and bobcats she often spots on her land.
