OBJECTIVE:
A senior IT leadership position at a dynamic, innovative company. With 25 years experience (including 9 as a CIO), I have worked in manufacturing, healthcare, pharmaceutical research, printing and scientific engineering industries. The roles I am searching for require a high degree of enterprise architecture expertise and a need to drive change within the organization. I am open to relocating to any U.S. location.
SUMMARY:
I am a high-energy, hands-on technology professional with a broad set of skills and experience on an international scale. My most recent position was CIO for a $700M global electronics manufacturing company. I have held senior IT leadership roles in Fortune 300 companies such as GlaxoSmithKline (now Quest Diagnostics), RR Donnelley & Sons, Abbott Laboratories, and Boehringer-Mannheim Pharma (now Roche). My strengths include "Big Picture" IT strategic planning, IT Infrastructure Operations, Enterprise Architecture, ERP implementations, and ITIL-based continuous process improvement. I have considerable experience running merger and acquisition integration projects and a specialized background in the validation of computer systems for regulatory compliance programs such as Sarbanes-Oxley 404 and healthcare accreditation. I hold a Doctorate from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Madison.
PROVEN ABILITIES:
Strategic IT Planning for Global Organizations
• Spearheaded a Board-approved 3-year IT Plan to re-engineer technology systems and business processes to restructure the company into global marketing streams. This EA-structured Plan replaced 98% of the IT systems in the company and restructured IT into a Shared Service (SOA) model. It was completed on-time and within budget, resulting in leaner business-focused operations, improved cost-efficiencies (lowered annual IT costs by 15%), faster business application development, and reduced business risk through standardization and compliance.
• Developed a 5-year Technical Architecture and associated roadmaps/blueprints to consolidate 800+ fragmented global systems down to a core platform of 200 systems running a wide variety of business systems. Completed the 5-year plan in 4 years, which substantially increased the reliability and availability of computer and network services while lowering operating costs by $10M annually.Merger/Acquisition and Business System Integration
• Led a 100-person IT Integration Team during an $8Bil merger project. Consolidated communications and financial business systems for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance and integration with other critical business applications. Migrated business systems from JD Edwards and Peoplesoft to a new global SAP ERP platform. Results enabled the company to expand services and grow the customer base.
• Led 3 business acquisitions ($20M-$50M) over 2 years, enabling the company to quickly absorb new products and services through standardized operations across multiple international locations.
Leadership / Business Alignment / Staff Development
• Recruited and developed global staffing organizations, processes, and procedures where none previously existed, on multiple occasions for companies with international scope.
• Created a "Shared Service" IT culture aligned with a "One-Company" business vision. Streamlined IT staffing redundancies and delivered increased levels of customer satisfaction through the use of standardized IT processes developed from industry-accepted methodologies (ITIL, TOGAF, Zachman, Lean Six Sigma, etc).
Sales / Driving Revenue
• Worked with sales organization to cultivate strategic partnerships through Joint Ventures with key gold customers by establishing "Centers of Excellence" to drive increased revenue sharing with partners. These Centers expanded the company's geographic reach to more customers.
• Developed PC-based software enabling clients to automate medical laboratory test orders and receipt of overnight electronic test results. Outcomes enabled the company to become the leading market share service provider by providing more functionality for its customers.
