About Alan Schein

Alan Schein, a notable poker player, currently resides in North Miami, Florida. Nicknamed “The Cockroach,” he started playing in 2003 and, since then, has had some very impressive wins. Unlike many other players, he does not play on the Internet; instead, he developed his poker skills by reading several poker books. Alan Schein believes his professional background as a venture capitalist helped him translate his business psychology and ability to read people into success at the poker table.

In 2003, Alan Schein was ninth place in the Showdown at the Sands No-Limit Hold’em Event. The following year, he cashed $25,500 at the Five-Star World Poker Classic – Event 15, securing thirty-first place. He also finished fourth at the United States Poker Championship, earning $5,740 on September 30, 2004. Later that year, Alan Schein won $23,580 in prize money by finishing eleventh in the United States Poker Championship – Main Event No-Limit Hold’em.

In early 2005, he had two great wins, which had him cashing in large amounts of prize money. On January 13, he walked away with $90,000 at the Harrah’s Atlantic City Poker Tournament. Just a month later, Alan Schein had another notable win at the Harrah’s Rincon Poker Tournament, outlasting 173 players to finish in first place. On the second day, midway through the final table, he seized the chip lead from Dan Alspach, the CEO of Orincon Corp. International, who plays poker in his spare time. Alspach was dealt J-4, and when the flop came 4-3-2, he moved all in with top pair. Alan Schein immediately called with an overpair of sevens, and he was all set to win, when another 4 came on the turn, giving Alspach triple fours. In the next hand, Alspach started with A-K and Alan Schein was dealt A-6. Although Alspach initially had the advantage, the flop came Q-9-6, giving Alan Schein the edge. After two blanks fell on the end, Alan Schein won the game and took home $55,370 and a gold ring. With these two wins, he became the first ever two-time World Series of Poker (WSOP) Circuit Winner.

In August 2006, he participated in the WSOP Event 39 No-Limit Hold’em Championship, winning $51,129. Later that year, he finished in thirty-ninth place at the World Poker Tour Season 5 and walked away with $14,309. Alan Schein secured fourth place at the Borgata Poker Classic – WPT Event 11 No-Limit Hold’em on January 27, 2007, earning $22,750. His biggest win that year came in September, when he made a whopping $440,200 and finished first at the Borgata Poker Open – WPT Event Season 6. That same month, he cashed another $2,795 at the United States Poker Championship - Event 13 No-Limit Hold’em and finished in fifteenth place. His major win in 2007, however, was the Inaugural Caesars Palace Classic – Event 9 No-Limit Hold’em, in which he secured first place, taking home $110,867 as prize money. With total winnings of $887,657 and 4 first-place finishes, Alan Schein is sure to have many more amazing wins in the future.
