Alan Hutton is a Scottish professional footballer, who was born on November 30, 1984 in Penilee, Glasgow. Nicknamed “Alan” and “Cafu” in the football circuit, he plays as a defender in the right-back position.
Alan Hutton represented the Scotland national team at the Under-21 and B levels and progressed to the senior side in May 2007. He made his first international appearance for the senior team as a substitute in a friendly against Austria that month. In September, he made his competitive debut versus Lithuania and was a member of the team that defeated France at the Parc de Princes. His brilliant performance in Scotland’s triumph over Ukraine in October 2007 fetched him the Sky Sports Man of the Match award. Alan Hutton has earned seven caps for Scotland as of August 2008.
Alan Hutton kick-started his football career with the Scottish football club, Rangers, in 2002. He made his debut for the club in a Scottish Premier League (SPL) match against Partick Thistle in December that year. He scored his maiden goal for Rangers in its match versus Dunfermline Athletic at Ibrox in March 2004 and appeared in eleven games for the club during the 2003-04 season. The following season, Alan Hutton was a part of the team that clinched the SPL and the Scottish League Cup. He represented the club as a member of the first team in twenty-three matches in the 2005-06 season. In the summer of 2007, Alan Hutton extended his contract for five years and played a crucial role for the club that season in its win in the Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) Champions League group matches against VfB Stuttgart and Olympique Lyonnais. In all, he made 94 appearances for the club, scoring twice during his tenure.
Alan Hutton moved onto the English football club, Tottenham Hotspur, on January 30, 2008, for a fee believed to be around £9 million. The following month, he made his debut for the club in a game against Manchester United that ended in a draw. He was also a part of the team that lifted the Carling Cup that season after emerging victorious in the final against Chelsea. Alan Hutton has played in 14 games for the club as of May 2008.
