About Ade Olagundoye
I am the manager of a New Basketball Club named London Dukes schedule to begin on the 1st April, 2009. This club is also managed by a colleague of mine - Cicero Fernando who is a semi-pro player and willing to give back to the general community. Funding is central to the London Dukes basketball club development. It is most definitely needed to promote and manage the club appropriately and to get youths and adults actively involved in its growth.
I have helped developed successful sports and health programmes over 20 scchools which saw increased participation at grassroots level and better progression to elite sports. With the Olympics and Paralympics knocking at the door we need to keep grassroots sports active and make sure participation in non-habitual sports is much more open to everyone.
Basketball is a non-habitual sports which is really of good interest and demand in grassroots. However, because British Basketball is still lagging behind in structures. The interest and demand from most communities is not supplied. This makes progression into the sport very difficult. London Dukes aims to contribute to British basketball development by organising domestic basketball competitions, registration to leagues and various outreach programmes.
The groups in the clubs are divided into 3:
1. Under 13 boys & girls (mixed)
2. Under 16 boys & girls
3. 18 and over Men & Women
The home training ground of the London Dukes Basketball Club is in East London Stratford. This venue was chosen for the club to be a better part of the upcoming Olympic Games and have a much effective way at increasing participation and access to sports.
