About A.J. Melino
A.J. Melino, the President of the private security firm AJ Melino & Associates, Inc., is a retired New York City police officer with a long track record of serving the community. The tireless efforts of A.J. Melino, who was assigned to the Manhattan District Attorney Homicide Investigation Unit in the 1990s, took gangs off the streets and made New York City a safer place to live.
Initially assigned to the 24th Precinct, Albert Melino proved to be a street-smart, high-energy cop with a passion for law enforcement. A.J. Melino’s dedication was quickly recognized, and Melino was reassigned to the Manhattan District Attorney Homicide Investigation Unit, where he was able to use his talents to the fullest. In this position, A.J. Melino’s participation in gang-related investigations eventually led to dozens of arrests.
In 1995, A.J. Melino’s investigations dismantled the Natural Born Killers, a violent gang that dealt cocaine on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Two other gangs selling the drug, the Young City Boys and the Young Talented Children, were also shut down thanks to A.J. Melino’s investigations.
In addition, A.J. Melino’s work also helped to unseat an informant within the New York Police Department. Gangs were being tipped off about undercover and surveillance operations by a cop, and A.J. Melino was the first to became aware of the illegal activities. Melino was responsible for the investigation that eventually brought down the cop and the street gangs that were no longer being tipped off.
New York City’s streets became significantly safer in the 1990s due to the efforts of A.J. Melino and other law enforcement officers.
